Jess Johnson
Program Assistant
Jess grew up on the traditional unceded lands of the Dane-zaa people in Treaty 8 territory, which is now known as the Peace Region of Northern BC. Inspired by her own recovery journey from a brain injury as a teenager, she graduated from Vancouver Island University in 2025 with a degree in Psychology and Kinesiology. As the NBIS office “chameleon” (pronounced: Program Assistant), Jess has spent the past two years supporting the organization in many different roles. At the heart of her work is a passion for connecting with people. You can find her delivering Concussion 101 workshops across the school district, cheering on volunteers, welcoming clients at the door, or persuading businesses across Nanaimo to bungy jump for Toss the Boss. After spending many years in the snowy North, Jess is now delighted to call the rocky shores of the Salish Sea home, where she spends much of her free time out on the water.
